AGC New Mexico Pre-Apprenticeship Program

5-Week Paid | Competency-Based | Hands-On Training
The AGC New Mexico Pre-Apprenticeship Program is designed for young adults interested in exploring careers in commercial construction. This paid, five-week program gives participants hands-on experience, basic jobsite skills, safety awareness, and direct exposure to career pathways in the skilled trades.
Participants will learn from construction professionals, contractors, and apprenticeship instructors while exploring real opportunities in New Mexico’s commercial construction industry.
Who Should Apply?
This program is open to individuals ages 18–24 who are interested in learning more about construction careers.
You do not need to be a high school graduate to apply.
Program Highlights
Participants will gain experience in:
- Hands-on construction activities
- Career exploration across multiple trades
- Jobsite safety and readiness
- Basic construction math and tool use
- Resume, employability, and interview skills
- Industry tours and employer engagement
- Introduction to registered apprenticeship
- Connections with contractors and industry leaders
5-Week Program Overview
Week 1: Construction Industry Foundations
Introduction to commercial construction, jobsite expectations, professionalism, basic safety, teamwork, and employability skills.
Week 2: Hands-On Craft Exploration
Exposure to carpentry, electrical, heavy equipment, concrete, labor trades, and basic tool identification.
Week 3: Jobsite Readiness & Safety
Safety concepts, construction math, measurement, blueprint awareness, communication, and teamwork.
Week 4: Industry & Career Connections
Contractor guest speakers, apprenticeship pathway overview, jobsite and training center tours, and career planning.
Week 5: Applied Learning & Next Steps
Hands-on projects, skills demonstrations, employer interaction, and transition planning into apprenticeship, training, or employment.
