Apprenticeship Program

The AGC Multi-Trade Apprenticeship Training Program is comprised of on-the-job training and classroom-related instruction.   Although this is a time-based program, a strong focus on competency is exercised. The emphasis in this program is the demonstration of trade-specific technical knowledge and skills mastery. Classroom assessment and field performance observation are tools that are used to ensure the ability to perform specified skills and tasks are mastered and retained. Classroom related instruction hours and on the job training hours are tracked, to further confirm that time spent in the program results in the acquisition of required knowledge.

Upon completion of the program graduates receive nationally recognized certification from the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER), which is recognized in over 40 countries; and a Journeyworker certificate issued by the State of New Mexico, recognized in all 50 states.

AGC New Mexico provides apprenticeship instruction if five (5) different Apprenticeship trades -

  • Craft Laborer 
  • Brick Mason / Block Mason 
  • Glazier
  • Carpentry
  • Concrete Finishing/Cement Mason

- related instruction is available state wide, through correspondence work, and multiple weekly attendance opportunities are available to better meet our member's needs.

Apprenticeship Curriculum

The AGC New Mexico is accredited through the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER).  The AGC Unilateral Apprentice Training program utilizes the NCCER Contren® Learning series, originally developed in part by AGC of America, now recognized as a national standard for quality craft training. Our Carpentry, MasonryCement Finisher, Craft Laborer and Glazing Apprenticeship programs are time-based with a strong emphasis on competency.

AFFIRMATIVE ACTION PLAN 

Developed in cooperation with the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions State Apprenticeship Agency and the United States Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship

The UTC enters into this Affirmative Action Plan (AAP) with good faith for the purpose of promoting equality of opportunity into its registered apprenticeship program. The UTC seeks to increase the recruitment of qualified women and/or minorities for possible selection into the apprenticeship program in the event women and/or minorities are underutilized in the apprenticeship program.  The UTC hereby adopts the following nondiscriminatory pledge and the Plan.

 In order to allow positive recruitment and full utilization of minorities and women in the apprenticeship program, the UTC pledges to identify outreach efforts under Section IV which will be undertaken.  The purpose of the analysis is to determine the minority and women’s labor force in the UTC’s labor market area.  Once the labor force is determined, the UTC can determine if deficiencies exist in terms of underutilization of minorities and/or women in the occupations registered with the State Apprenticeship Agency.  (See attached Affirmative Action Plan Analysis Worksheet)
