CHASE update 5/23/07: AGC, NM OSHA Sign New Three-Year CHASE Agreement

By Dennis W. Roberts, AGC Director of Industry Relations and Safety

On Wednesday, May 23, 2007, following the AGC Board Meeting, chapter representatives and State of New Mexico officials signed a new agreement for the Construction Health and Safety Partnership (CHASE), which was started in May 2001 and renewed the first time in 2004.

Signing for AGC were Brook Henderson, Lockwood Construction Co., chapter president; Melvin Madrid, Gerald Martin General Contractor, chair of the AGC Safety and Health Committee; AGC CEO Vicki Mora; and Dennis Roberts, AGC Director of Industry Relations and Safety.

Cynthia Padilla, Deputy Secretary of the New Mexico Environment Department, and Butch Tongate, NM OSHA Bureau Chief, signed for the State. Both expressed appreciation to AGC and the CHASE Partner companies for their outstanding work in construction safety and stated that they were pleased and honored to be in partnership with the New Mexico Building Branch, AGC.

Tongate mentioned that, during his jobsite visits, he found CHASE members to be exemplary. He called CHASE “one of the best partnerships we’re involved with.”

Twenty-four chapter members are currently participating in CHASE at three different levels---Red, White, and Blue, with Blue being the highest. At the Blue level, the company receives a jobsite banner and is taken off  OSHA’s programmed inspection list.  The CHASE partners are:

Blue Level: American National Insulation and Sealants (ANI); AUI, Inc.; Beaty Construction Co.; Big J Enterprises LLC; J.B.  Henderson Construction Co., Inc.; Jaynes Corporation; Jaynes Structures, Inc.; Gerald Martin General Contractor; Lockwood Construction Co.;  Territorial Scaffold, Inc.; Western States Fire Protection; and Yearout Mechanical and Engineering.

White Level: B&D Industries; Crane Service, Inc.; Four Suns Builders, Inc.;  Miller Bonded Inc.; Noel Company; Precision Masonry, Inc.; Richardson and Richardson, Inc.; and Star Construction, Inc.

Red Level: Bradbury Stamm Construction; Ferreri Concrete Structures, Inc.; Formwork Specialists, Inc.; and Franken Construction Co., Inc.

There were minor changes to the new agreement. Please click here for a copy with changes underlined (84k Word doc). Applications are being taken at any time throughout the year.
