AGC Supported Student Chapters

AGC Student Chapters provide young professionals with opportunities to learn, observe and develop their skills with current leaders in the industry. Strong, active student chapters fill the pipeline with eager and educated young leaders and future members for your AGC chapter.

AGC New Mexico is committed to promoting and supporting members, students, faculty and others in the study of higher education through research, scholarships, and conferences.

AGC supports higher education in the construction industry, specifically as it relates to managerial skills and project management.  Our student programs and activities serve as a positive reflection of student life and the industry as a whole.

AGC supports student chapters at both UNM and NMSU.  Among other activities, our student chapters meet annually at AGC's Annual Convention.

Please contact us if you are interested in getting involved with the AGC-supported student chapter at either UNM or NMSU.

UNM Students Excel from AGC-NM Support

The AGC Student Chapter is proud to announce their recent victories at the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Reno competition in February 2015.  Following a full semester of hard work preparing for the event and working with mentor companies from AGC, the teams were able to demonstrate their proficiency in three competitive categories:  Design-Build, Commercial Construction, and LEED & Sustainable Buildings.  Each team consists of 6 students from majors such as Civil Engineering, Construction Management, and Architecture.  The Pinnacle Award for individual technical expertise in the Commercial Construction category was awarded to Colten Treharn, a senior in our Construction Management program.  Additionally, our LEED & Sustainable Buildings team won the award for Best Presentation.  The teams would like to express their sincere appreciation to the AGC companies that helped in mentoring and providing presentation feedback.  These awards and participation in the competition would not be possible without the generous support of AGC firms.
The AGC Student Chapter at UNM will start organizing for the 2016 ASC (Reno) competition this coming August.  It has been demonstrated every year that the success of our students is directly related to the involvement of industry representatives.  It is never too early to volunteer to work with our student teams as mentors or to help by sponsoring a team.    As a side note, the ASC competition also includes one of the construction industries largest career fairs.  If you are looking to find your next outstanding employee, you are welcome to join us at the competition.   Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in being involved with the student chapters or are interested in attending the ASC competition.
