OSHA Region VI Starts Special Emphasis Crane Inspection ProgramFederal OSHA will be doing special emphasis inspections on cranes in Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, and those parts of New Mexico that are under its jurisdiction. New Mexico is the only state in Region VI that has a state OSHA plan. Federal OSHA monitors the effectiveness of the state program in New Mexico and has been known to inspect federally-funded jobs in this state. The special emphasis program will extend to September 30, 2009. Contractors who have received annual verification visits as part of a recognized partnership program, including the Blue level of this chapter’s CHASE partnership, are exempt. The OSHA crane inspection emphasis is being spurred by the fact that there have been 61 fatal accidents involving cranes in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana from July, 2000, to July, 2008.
