Safety Alert! “Counterfeit Square D” Circuit Breakers Are Being Voluntarily RecalledThe U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced on May 27 a voluntary recall of 371,000 circuit breakers, which it calls “counterfeit.” The recall is being performed in cooperation with Specialty Lamp International, Inc., Deerfield Beach, FL. These are not being reported by CPSC as being “actual” Square D products, and the recall is not being initiated by Square D. CPSC says that these breakers may fail to trip when they are overloaded. The breakers are black and numbered according to the following series QO 115, 120,130, 215, 220, 230, 240, 250, 260, and 2020 and QOB series models 115, 120,130,220,230, 250, 260, and 1515. The source of manufacturing has been listed by CPSC as “China” or “Unknown”. The breakers were sold between May, 2005, and June, 2006. Unless the breaker fits the proper marking identifications used by Square D (described on the Specialty Lamp International web site at www.ebulb.net, click on ”Circuit Break Recall” at bottom of home page ), it may be counterfeit. Further information can be found by e-mailing bart@specialty-lamp.com or by calling Specialty Lamp International, which can arrange for a free inspection and replacement, if necessary, 1-866-650-3076.
