AGC Leadership Determines New Approach to Job Creation in Gallup

AGC - New Mexico is re-defining roles and partnerships to add job creation through workforce development training in Gallup New Mexico’s changing construction market.  Rick Murphy, 2014 AGC President-elect and Board Member of the Greater Gallup Economic Initiative encouraged his industry colleagues to join Gallup business leaders in developing a strategy to link the railway regional transload outpost development of BNSF Railway with AGC - New Mexico's national and local award winning workforce development program.

This is a great step to show collaboration and employ our respective tools in an organized fashion to advance workforce development initiatives state wide.” Rick Murphy, Murphy Builders.

Recent efforts have applied industry-driven curriculum that will be offered during the fall semester at UNM-Gallup.

Right now we’re all working on the alignment of the programs and we’re excited that come the fall semester the course work will be supported by the network,” Vicki Mora, CEO, AGC-NM, said. “It’s about positioning Gallup with the rail industry and the gas and oil industry for their workforce development needs.”

We will continue our efforts in workforce development and cross-training for construction-related jobs. Our heavy involvement in pre-apprenticeship work and training, internships and recruitment programs are a focused effort of the AGC Chapter and we are appreciative of the partnerships with, Greater Gallup Economic Development Corp., Navajo Technical Community College and BNSF Railway.
